The right healthcare when and where you need it. If you or someone close to you becomes ill or is injured, it is important to know where to turn. In most situations, your first choice should be Vårdcentralen, your local healthcare centre.

1177 – medical advice by phone

If you are unsure where to seek care, call the medical advice line on phone number 1177. Registered nurses can give you advice and guide you to the right level of care – for example a local emergency ward, an emergency department at a hospital, or your healthcare centre. You can call 1177 every day, around the clock.

Vårdcentralen – local healthcare centre

Vårdcentralen is your local healthcare centre, your primary contact for temporary health problems, long-term illnesses and mental health issues. Contact Vårdcentralen if you, for example, have: 

  • High temperature
  • Urinary tract
  • Respiratory or skin infection
  • Sudden worsening of a long-term illness
  • Wounds or acute rashes.

We also offer assessment and treatment if you feel mentally unwell. Healthcare centres are open during daytime on weekdays. Many healthcare centres also have extended opening hours in the evenings and at weekends.

You can register with one of our healthcare centres and get an assigned doctor. If you do, you are covered by the healthcare guarantee.

Närakuten – for urgent help

At a local emergency ward, adults and children of all ages can get help with acute illnesses and injuries that are not life-threatening. You do not need to book an appointment, and you can visit any local emergency ward regardless of where you live. 
In a life-threatening situation, always call 112.

At 1177.se you can find information about health, illnesses and healthcare services. Using the search function “Hitta vård” (Find healthcare), you can also find contact details for all our clinics and hospital departments.

Alltid öppet

Alltid öppet (Always Open) is Region Stockholm’s service for digital healthcare contacts. Here you can log in and contact your clinic for non-urgent matters. To log in, you need an electronic form of identification – either BankID or Freja eID Plus.
